I'm not certain what you're actually having trouble with in the comment. If
you're having trouble with the battle of the Severn (1655), it is a
well-documented event in colonial Maryland history that occurred near Providence
(present-day Annapolis). But I'm not certain if that's what why you're having a
problem with what I wrote. Please let me know so I can clarify if possible.

Thanks. That explains my confusion. I hadn't realized there was a
Severn west of the Atlantic.
