Re: Francoise De Meherenc de Montmirel royal gateway
Dennis,
yes, I remember it quite fondly!! The excellent posts by you and Jean!!!!
I am researching this fellow (ancestor of Francoise de Meherenc) here:
Raoul Nicolas Bouchard (dit DE MÉHÉRENC)
http://www.athenaluna.com/Gen/people/p000001c.htm#I3381
here is my site on this as well:
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com ... royal.html
here is my text from Larry dumont, I am also going to see if I can get a
photo of
Manoir du Montmirel from him. I also want a photo of The coat of arms over
the entrance to the manoir has worn off, but evidence of a coat of arms
remain.
Jacques Gueret was the grandson of Francoise de Meherenc du Montmirel. One
the
most ancient noble family of Bretagne, France. Their origin goes back to
1350,
with Raoul Bouchard de Meherenc. His son Guillaume Bouchard, having
recognized
nobility by the judgement of September 9, 1388, abandonned the Bouchard
name,
and chose the name Meherenc. One branch settled in Normandy in the region of
Canchy, France and took the name de Meherenc du Montmirel.
Francoise de Meherenc du Montmirel, the daughter of Jean de Meherenc, Lord
of
Dumont-mirel. In Montmirel, where Francoise de Meherenc was born, can still
be
visited today. Two family members have visited the Manoir du Montmirel. In
1985, Richard and Gemma Dumont of Augusta, Maine, son of Philip and Concorde
Dumont. In 1994, Larry Dumont of Huntsville, Alabama, son of Lorn and Leola
Dumont. The coat of arms over the entrance to the manoir has worn off, but
evidence of a coat of arms remain. The Manoir du Montmirel is presently
owned
by Levesques. They raise and own a stable of race horses.
It is believed that Jacques went to La Rochelle in view of obtaining a
passport but we found no record as such. Yet it is understood that he signed
a
contract in 1691. It is also known that the law said in those days that if
navigators were planning to travel aboard to new land, they were to have at
least eight to nine men so as to obtain a contract. The contract was that
upon
arrival to their new locations, they were obliged to work and live with a
family for at least two to three years before being able to acquire any land
or a "concession" as known in those days.

Re: Francoise De Meherenc de Montmirel royal gateway
Thank you for you input. Several corrections if you dont mind. The
Meherenc family is not one of the most ancient families of Bretagne.
The Rohan and Goyon-Matignon are. It is a somewhat ancient family (late
14th century). In fact it originates from Normandie (pays de Caux) and
one branch much later migrated to Bretagne (de Meherenc de
Saint-Pierre), not the contrary. Bouchard is the original surname and
they later added the de Meherenc, from a small estate. There is not
link between the seigneurie de Montmirel (near La Cambe) and the later
Gueret surname (or canadian dit name) of Dumont. So there is no point
in writing such things as seigneurie Dumont-Mirel or du Montmirel to
explain a posteriori the Gueret-Dumont surmane of their canadian
descendants. Most of the Normandie branches embraced the Protestant
(Huguenot) faith at the turn of the 16th century. With my compliments.

Re: Francoise De Meherenc de Montmirel royal gateway
Jean,
Corrections are always good..
Understood de Montmirel has nothing to do with dumont surname only the
Meherenc is a Montmirel here, you may have misunderstood, these names
associated with places can get confusing. But as understood Dumont- Dit
Guerret is a descendant of the Meherenc but no surmame relationships apply
here from montmirel to dumont...
so the naming syntax as I understand it for Meherenc only is as follows:
Bouchard (or sometimes referred to as Bouchard Dit De Méhérenc, Raoul
Nicolas et Dexerainville )
Meherenc
Meherence du Montmirel (Jean De Meherenc DU MONTMIREL) the Meherence from
Montmirel Canchey, Calvados, France seems the most logical reasoning.
as for dumont vs dumontmirel only a mere coinsidance I think a
misunderstanding.
I will do further research of the families of Bretagne vs. Normandy. I would
like to learn more
of the small estate of Meherenc and estates of Montmirel.
Your questions and observations are in good order but further questions
regarding families from Montmirel & Merherenc, in reality say we have
Bouchards from Meherence & Bouchards from Montmirel and they added were they
lived eventualy as thier surnames..

Re: Francoise De Meherenc de Montmirel royal gateway
Dear Jean,
Are you saying that Raoul Bouchard, sgr de Meherenc (c. 1330) is the father
of Herni, Richard and Renouf? Maybe I don't quite understand the numbering
but if Raoul is their father then should Henri be numbered 1.1, Richard 1.2
and Renouf 1.3? Maybe I am right to be wrong or wrong to be right, who
knows. Thanks for this very informative post.
