Dinan, Brittany circa 1200

Hello everybody,
Can I pick your collective brains please ?
I'm working on the Dinan family and allies (Mayenne, Beaumont-sur-Sarthe,
d'Avaugour etc.) and I'm stuck on the maternal line for Gervaise de Dinan, d.
1238, daughter and heiress of Alain de Vitré (d.1197). Apparently his widow,
Clémence de Fougères, was his second wife and not the mother of his only child.
Clémence went on to marry the Earl of Chester. Gervaise married Juhel III de
Mayenne, Geoffroy de Rohan, and Richard, the son of William Marshal, Earl of
Pembroke.
I would assume that Alain's first lady, Gervaise's mother, was of roughly
equivalent status and almost certainly from the Normandy/Brittany/Maine area. So
does anyone know of a family using the name Gervaise in North-West France in
the 12th century with a spare daughter to be accounted for ?
If you have any suggestions I would be most grateful.
TIA
Peter Meazey (Dinan, Brittany)

Hi Peter,

<does anyone know of a family using the name

accounted for ?

In Collectanea Topographica Genealogica, Vol VIII, London:
John Bowyer Nichols and Son, 1843, page 96 from Corrected
pedigree of de Gorram of La Tanniere in Maine there is a
Gervaise de St. Loup, daughter of Guido St. Loup and Mary de
Gorram, sister to Groiet who was a hostage for William de
Gorram to King John in 1199 whose husband isn't listed
therein.

Her mother is sister of William de Gorram, lord of la
Tanniere whose shield is three lions rampant. He is son of
Giles de Gorram and Osanne, son of William de Gorram and
Matrida (according to Cartul. of Mont St. Michael or Matilda
according to Carul. of Savigny), son of Ralph de Gorram
(granted Brece, near Gorram, to Marmoutier Abbey, about
1100) and Hersendis, sister of Juhel II, lord of Mayenne.

Ralph is possibly son of Geoffrey who was son of Rivallon I
de Dol/Combour, brother to Junguenee, Archbishop of Dol ca
1040.

If this sounds like the right Gervaise, I'd be glad to email
a scan of the CTG page to you and/or discuss this further.
