Turk's _Beatty-Asfordby_ , p. 83 [sub Vavasour] (Staunton, Virginia,
1909) shows the wife of Sir Henry Vavasour of Hazelwood, Yorkshire (High
Sheriff of Yorkshire in 1470. Will proved 15 April 1500) to have been a
certain Joan Gascoigne, daughter of Sir William Gascoigne of Gawthorpe,
Yorkshire.

If this identification is correct, I am wondering if this refers to Sir
William (died before 1466) and Margaret (Clarell), Lady Gascoigne, or
to their son Sir William and Lady Margaret (Percy) Gascoigne.

Thanks for any information.

In my notes (from messages sent to Gen-Med) I have her as sister of the
William Gascoigne (-c1463) and daughter of Sir William Gascoigne of Gawthorp by
Margaret dau of Thomas Clarell of Aldwarke, Yorks (widow of John FitzWilliam
(-1421 Rouen) of Sprotborough, Yorks and of Sir Robert Waterton.) This makes
Joan a sister of the Ann who m Sir Hugh Hastings (<1448-1488) de jure 10
Baron Hastings

by his wife, Margaret Clarell, daughter of Thomas Clarell, Esq., of
Aldwark, Yorkshire.

The information below is taken from Douglas Richardson, Magna Carta
