Dear Douglas and others,
According to the Lancashire On-line
Parish Clerk website for Rishton quoting " The HIstory of the County Palatine
and Duchy of Lancaster (1891) by Edward Baines Esq volume IV: pp 48-49
Gilbert de Blackburn, son of Henry de Blackburn in 1245 married Margery de Praers
and recieved the manor of Rysseton- juxta -Harwode. their son Henry de
Rysseton married Margaret Clayton of Clayton le Moors and had a son Gilbert de
Rysseton who died in 1290. In 1425, this Gilbert`s great great grandson Richard
Rishton died without issue and the manor passed to his younger brother Roger`s
elder son Richard Rishton. Did this Richard marry Margaret Holt and become
father of that Henry Riston born say 1426 more or less who was contracted to
marry Agnes Sherburne in 1448 (see MCA p 900 sub Worden). I have noticed among the
various Rootsweb sites one belonging to a Patrick O`Brien " O`Brien and
Lucore Familes " indicates that that Richard was the son instead of a Henry
Rishton of Clayton le Moors who married Margaret de Legh made his will September
27, 1427 which was probated May 29, 1428. going by that information it appears
Squire Baines account of the family was incorrect.
Sincerely,
James W Cummings
