On Leo's great website here
http://www.genealogics.org/getperson.ph ... 6&tree=LEO
we see Henry with only a birthyear.

He has a DNB entry which gives this additional genealogical detail.
Born 20 Jan 1628 at Huntingdon
died 23 Mar 1673/4 Spinney Abbey, Cambridgeshire
buried at Wicken Church, Cambridgeshire
married 10 May 1658
Elizabeth Russell (d 7 Apr 1687)
dau of Sir Francis Russell of Chippenham

Thank you Will and pulling this slightly back into the medieval period we can
add the following
From DNB "Russell, William"
Sir William Russell, baronet, Treasurer of the Navy buried 3 Feb 1654 at
Chippenham, Cambridgeshire
was the grandfather of the Elizabeth Russell who married Henry Cromwell (see
above)
The intermediate link, that is William's son and thus Elizabeth's father --
was Sir Francis Russell, eldest son of this father and also created baronet.

This Sir Francis Russell must have been born between 1626 and 1633
1) William's first wife Elizabeth Cherry died in 1626 (DNB "Russell,
William").
2) Sir Francis Russell's mother was William's second wife Elizabeth Gerard
(dau of Thomas Gerard of Burnell)
3) Elizabeth Russell married Henry Cromwell 10 May 1658 (DNB "Cromwell,
Henry")

This is a pretty tight chronology.
Either Francis was an early son of a quick second marriage, or Elizabeth
Russell was married as a child.
Appreciate any comments and pointers to any records that may comment on this
line.

That's very interesting Will, but you may have misread the marriage date.
Here is a document which states that they are already married by 3 Aug 1653

You're doing such a good job by yourself(s) that it's hard for the rest
of us to get a word in!

I wonder if anyone can tie into the Cromwell family, the Miss Cromwell
who married Francis Wise of Cherry Hinton, Cambs (1519-1589) as his
first wife?

And in Mark Noble's "Protectorate House of Cromwell" there is some
additional info:

Born 20 Jan 1628 at Huntingdon

Confirmed

died 23 Mar 1673/4 Spinney Abbey, Cambridgeshire

Confirmed

buried at Wicken Church, Cambridgeshire

Confirmed

married 10 May 1658

"Soon after his return from Ireland, in 1653, he married a dau of sir
Fra. Russell, bart."

Elizabeth Russell (d 7 Apr 1687)

Confirmed with the nugget that she was 52 at death and burried close to
hubby at Wicken.

dau of Sir Francis Russell of Chippenham

An additional information relating to the marriage date is the birth of
the eldest daughter, Elizabeth, who was born at Whitehall in Sept 1654,
dying at Chippenham on 17th July 1659 and buried in the church there on
the 18th.

Apologies for thie material being outside the scope of this newsgroup.

Interesting that the death date is given in both calendars but not the
birth! Is it 1627/8 or 1628/9? I noticed the new DNB wasn't consistent
about which calendar they chose for dates.

buried at Wicken Church, Cambridgeshire
married 10 May 1658
Elizabeth Russell (d 7 Apr 1687)
dau of Sir Francis Russell of Chippenham

Thank you Will and pulling this slightly back into the medieval period we can

This Sir Francis Russell must have been born between 1626 and 1633

Even tighter- according to new DNB, William married his 3rd wife in
1628. I descend from that marriage, and didn't note any further details
on the previous ones, but it gives William as born c.1575, son of
another William (d.1591) by one Joan Saunders.

1) William's first wife Elizabeth Cherry died in 1626 (DNB "Russell,
William").
2) Sir Francis Russell's mother was William's second wife Elizabeth Gerard
(dau of Thomas Gerard of Burnell)
3) Elizabeth Russell married Henry Cromwell 10 May 1658 (DNB "Cromwell,
Henry")

This is a pretty tight chronology.

And of course Elizabeth's brother John Russell married Henry's sister
Frances Cromwell...
