Intermarried with the Huttons of Dry Drayton, and the Docwras of
Fulbourn. The foundations for this stemma come from the Visitation of
Cambridgeshire 1575 & 1619 VC) where the name is spelled Wysse, but
each entry has, wherever possible, been cross-referenced to primary
records. Caveat lector: there are a couple of unsubstantiated IGI
references.

1. William Wise of Cherry Hinton (VC)

married Agnes Wilcocks, will dated 4 October 1556, proved Consistory
Court of Ely, 30 October 1556 [VC12:244]:

"Agnes Wyse of Hynton in the countie of Cambrige, widow; to be buried
within the parish churche of Hynton in the Trinitie chappel neare unto
my late houseband; £5 to son Edward's son William Wyse at 18; £5 to
son Edward's second son Thomas Wyse at 18; various copyholds to son
Francis and his heirs; to Francis's next child, my great brasse pott
and £5; to son Edward, 20s of that which he oweth me; to my sonne
Gylbert, 20s of that that he owethe me; to my suster Johane my best
gowne; residue to my sonne Francis whom I ordayne and make my
executour; to Marie my daughter my ... and a pair of my currall beads
the best but one..."

Issue:

2a. Francis Wise, of Cherry Hinton; born circa 1519; died 5 June 1589;
buried at Cherry Hinton, his tomb being extant in the north aisle, 3
September 1773 [Monumental Inscriptions & Coats of Arms for
Cambridgeshire, p 24]; inscription with coat of arms since removed to
the north wall of the belfry:

"Franciscvs Wisvs nuptis m.. Cromwell [et] Hvtton
"Septenaqve olim prole, beatvs eram
"Addictvs legvm stvdiis, vitaeque probatae,
"Post annos mor... septvaginta senex
"Obiit 5 Jvnii 1589"

will dated 2 June 1589, proved Archdeacon's Court of Ely, June 1589
[WR4:278]:

"Francis Wyse of Hynton, gentleman; my bodie to be buried in the
chappell neare my father and my mother, near the buriall of my fyrst
wyfe; I make and ordayne Katherine my wyfe my sole executrix... during
the term of her naturall life, and after her decease I will that John
Wyse my sonne shalbe my executor... if he overlive his mother; to
Katherine, all my messuages, lands and tenements, and after her decease
to John Wyse my sonne and to his heyres male of his bodie lawfully
begotten, and if he die without..., [to be] equally divided between the
heyres female of my said sonne and the children of my daughter Catlyn;
if any of the heyres female of my sonne of the heyre female of my
daughter shall fortune to marry with any of the name of the Wyses,
being an honest man, that then I will that all of the said messuages,
lands and tenements shall wholly remayne to that heyre female and to
her husband; I give to the children of my daughter Catlyn (being fyve
in number) fyve score pounds, that is to say, to every one of them £20
a pece; after the death of my wife, my pewter, brass and candlesticks
to be divided equally between my son and daughter; residue to my
executors". Probate June 1589 to widow Catherine; second grant of
probate, August 1592, to John Wise.

married firstly, Miss Cromwell (VC)

married secondly, Catherine Hutton, daughter of Thomas Hutton and Anne
nee Freville, of Dry Drayton (VC); executrix to her husband, 1589;
buried at Cherry Hinton, 6 September 1592 (PR).

Issue:

3a. Alice Wise, not know by which marriage; living in 1589; married at
Cherry Hinton, 1580 William Catlyn [Boyd's Marriage Index]; five
children living in 1589

3b. John Wise, son of the second marriage (VC); born circa 1560;
matriculated at Peterhouse, Cambridge, 1577 [Alum. Cantab.]; bought
Malletts Manor, Cherry Hinton, 1598, which afterwards passed to his
three daughters [VCH, Cambs]; buried at Cherry Hinton, 11 September
1609 (PR)

married firstly, 1587 [licence from Ely] Alice Dryver (VC), daughter of
Thomas Dryver; baptised at Fulbourn, 2 November 1572 (IGI); buried at
Cherry Hinton, 3 September 1605 (PR); left issue, three sons and four
daughters

married secondly, Joan Cooke of Cheshire (VC); one daughter, Mary,
baptised at Cherry Hinton, 21 September 1607 (IGI)

Issue by first marriage:

4a. Catherine Wise, married 1615 Thomas Docwra of Fulbourn [VC; PR],
and had issue

4b. Dryver Wise, of Cherry Hinton; married Anne Brakin (VC) and had
issue

4c. Frances Wise, baptised at Cherry Hinton, 24 October 1594 (PR);
married Thomas Greek [VC; Boyd's]

4d. Mercy Wise, baptised at Cherry Hinton, 1595 [PR] NB not'Mary' as
per VC; married at Stapleford, 1614 Robert Killingworth (VC), and had
issue

4e. Rachel Wise, baptised at Cherry Hinton, 28 September 1600 [PR]; not
named in VC so perhaps died young

4f. Thomas Wise, baptised at Cherry Hinton, 27 October 1603 [PR]

4g. John Wise, baptised at Cherry Hinton, 31 January 1604/5 [PR]

married at Cherry Hinton, 4 September 1606 (PR) Hugh White (VC)

4d. Agnes Wise, baptised at Cherry Hinton, 27 October 1581 (IGI);
possibly to be equated with "Anne", the daughter who married Francis
Collins (VC)
