Letters from Sarah Kenrick to her sister Mary Bunnell and daughters
Sarah and Mary

FILE [no title] - ref. CR 147/9 - date: 13 Dec. 1830
hit[from Scope and Content] Letter from Sarah Kenrick at Wynn
Hall [Ruabon, co. Denbigh] to her sister Mrs. [Mary] Bunnell at Lower
Terrace, Islington, London. Refers to Mr. A. Kenrick, senior, setting
up his carriage and pair, 'who will say the times are bad with
ironmasters' and a friend Mrs. Parry of Liverpool who was planning to
close her school in Liverpool to retire with her husband to 'settle in
the gay village of Leamington on the London side of Warwick... Tis
likely she expects benefit from the Leamington Spa Waters. Mr. P. and
herself are much troubled with scorbutic complaints'. Thanks her for
the offer of a wedding present for her son Samuel and that a pair of
plated candlesticks would be acceptable. States that after Samuel's
marriage [to Hannah Edwards] the business would be carried on in Mrs.
Edwards' name during her lifetime as it had been since her father's
death, although it had been managed by her daughter and some old
servants, some of whom were there during Samuel's apprenticeship.
Refers also to her youngest son Edward and his 'hankering after
America' and that he wished to go there in the Spring with a family
from Ash [near Whitchurch, Salop]. States that she will probably go to
see her daughters at their school at Brynyffynon [near Wrexham] during
the holiday and promises to send her some Welsh mutton. States that the
young ladies 'separate tomorrow' but that some stay for the vacation so
that her daughter Mary would have 'little cessation from the cares of
housekeeping'

FILE [no title] - ref. CR 147/10 - date: 22 Dec. 1830
hit[from Scope and Content] Letter from the same to the same
concerning the coming wedding of her son Samuel to Hannah Edwards.
Describes the tour which the young couple were to make in N. Wales
before returning to their own home in Whitchurch, which would be the
same house where both Samuel and his father served their
apprenticeship, and that Samuel is now the same age as his father was
when he left Whitchurch for America. Also states that the Edwards had a
warehouse in Manchester for the sale of leather straps used in
considerable quantities in the manufacture of machinery of the cotton
works. Refers to her own wedding 'more than 40 years gone by' [1781],
and the hazards of married life. Also refers to several recent 'sad
fires' in the Whitchurch area and states that threshing in this area by
machine has now ceased due to the threats of incendiaries and that a
farmer near Chirk had received a threatening letter.

(Would this family be relations of the Eddoweses of Pennsylvania?)

Yes, this was published in TAG 64 (1989), 193-202.
The name "Pevson" should be Pierson,
which is a reference to Henry Pierson,
son of John Cooper's wife.

I thought it seemed familiar. Thanks for explaining about
'Pevson'--that didn't actually seem like a real surname ...
