Parents of Henry, 1st Lord Docwra b 1564

Henry, later 1st Baron Docwra, was baptised at Thatcham 30 April 1564,
son of Edmund Docwra, MP, sometime of Chamberhouse, Berkshire.

His mother, Dorothy, is stated in a number of secondary sources as
"daughter of John, Lord Hussey" [presumably the peer of that name who
was attainted and executed in 1537].

However, the online ODNB states that she was sister of the translator
Arthur Golding (1535/6-1606); the latter was son of John Golding (d
1547) by his second wife Ursula Marston (d c1564); a daughter by John
Golding's first marriage, Margery, was 2nd wife of John, 16th Earl of
Oxford, and mother of Edward, the 17th Earl. Another brother was Henry
Golding, MP.

I am not sure what HoP says about the identity of Edmund Docwra's wife.
Certainly, if she was a Golding, this would show that Lord Docwra had
some influential family connections.

Wow! In one foul (and how foul) swoop you also have revealed that either
this entry is wrong or else CP is wrong.

CP Volume IV page 387. No parents are given for him but he is born "about
1568" some four years _after_ having been baptised :-)

And here I am wrong------ooops. Thank goodness I have volume XIV. It tells
to delete 1568 and replace it with "2nd son of Edmund Docwra of Thatcham,
Berks., by Dorothy, daughter of John Golding, of Belchamp St.Paul, Essex,
baptised 30 April 1564 at Thatcham."

And so those online sources are wrong, ODNB is correct.
Best wishes

That great, thanks Leo - a useful confirmation. Nice to see that ODNB
is right!

Cheers
