How reliable is DNB. I was checing the file for Tyrwhit,(nee Oxenbridge) Elizabeth and I found information that doesn't agree.especially with the reference to the Elizabeth Etchingham. daughter of Thomas Etchingham Should I really rely upon DNB

question is seconded

it gives father of Henry Carey 1st Baron Hunsdon as William Cary rather than
Henry VIII (see Anthony Hoskins in Gen Mag Vol 25 No 9 1997)

wife of Francois de la Queueille is given as Anne de Rohan rather than Anne
d'Espinay (Esme Stuart 1st Duke of Lennox) see CP I p329 footnote (a)

cheers

=====I think Anthony Hoskins article is convincing and I have accepted this

paternity by Henry VIII. However, to be fair to DNB, _officially_ William
Cary is the father but they should have mentioned Henry VIII.

=== I have the same as what Simon says. Gerald Paget, in his books on the

ancestors and relatives of Prince Charles, gives that the parents of Anne
are Francois Seigneur de la Queuille and his 2nd wife Anne, daughter of
Jacques d'Espinay.

BUT Burke's Peerage 1967 page 1760 Anne is daughter of Francois de la
Queuille by his second wife Anne de Rohan.

BUT ES Volume X in which the de Rohan family is recorded, in the index is
only one entry for de la Queuille--- if refers to a Jean who married Claude
de La Tour and so I agree that DNB is wrong.

To go further on this

Cahiers de Saint Louis give

page 767 Anne d'Espinay = Francois sgr de la Qeueille
fils de Charles et d'Anne de Bellenave
(I have seen others giving her as Anne de Ventadour)

page 765 Anne is daughter of
Jacques d'Espinay sgr d'Usse d 1520
and Jeanne de Couraudin, Dame de Moncontour

pages 763/4 Jacques is son of
Beatrice de Montauban married 13.09.1435
Richard sgr d'Espinay son of Robert II et de Marguerite de la Courbe

page 763 Beatrice is daughter of Bonne Visconti
this now hits a well known line

Many thanks for this. For me it is so handy to record all sources for a
person as this makes it possible to make comparisons. This added line is for
me important as Anne de la Queuille is an ancestor of

Gateway ancestors Lady Christina Stewart and Charles Stirling,

as well as
Lady Diana Spencer, Sarah Ferguson, Camilla Shand, the Duke of Gloucester,
Howard Dean III, Sir Winston Churchill and Albert, Prince of Monaco.

Many thanks
Leo
