Paternity of Joan Griffith, living 1493, wife of Sir Lionel

Recently I was fortunate to locate a copy of "Ancestral Roots Eighth
Edition," edited by William and Kaleen Beall (Dec. 2004), now out of
print. It appears to be a significant improvement over AR7. However,
in line 202-37, the Bealls have made an error in stating that Joan,
wife of Sir Lionel Dymoke, was "prob." the daughter of Richard Griffth.
No further information is given.

Douglas Richardson, in his PLANTAGENET ANCESTRY (2004), and MAGNA CARTA
ANCESTRY (2005), states without equivocation that Joan (Griffth) Dymoke
was the daughter of Rhys Griffith of Stickford, Lincs. David Faris, in
his PLANTAGENET ANCESTRY OF SEVENTEENTH CENTURY COLONISTS, FIRST
EDITION (1996) says that Joan Griffth who m. Lionel Dymoke was the
daughter of Richard Griffith of Stockford.
AR7 also says that Joan Griffith was the daughter of Richard Griffith.

This issue was dealt with conclusively by Kenneth W. Kirkpatrick in a
post to this newsgroup entitled "lionel & alice dymoke" dated 18 July
2000, in which primary source documents are cited. There is absolutely
no doubt that Joan (Griffth) Dymoke was the daughter of Rhys Griffith
(d. 8 Oct 1489) of Stickford, Lincs., nor is there any doubt that Alice
Dymoke who m. William Skipwith, knt. (d. 7 July 1547) was the daughter
of Joan Griffth.

I collect these books (and by the way, "Complete Peerage" on CD-ROM is
great) and know they contain some errors. I like Douglas Richardson's
two volumes, even though they contain errors, too, but I think that's
inevitable with the vast amount of data they contain. I wish the
Bealls had not made this error, because once in print it's difficult to
correct, and the people under discussion are someone's family.

By way of coda, I have found the scholarship in some of the posts on
this newsgroup to be valuable, and have derived great benefit from
them. It does concern me, though, that the verbal bashing that
occasionally crops up between people, who, after all, are trying to get
to the truth, detracts overall from the topics under discussion.

Actually, I'm not sure it was that much of an improvement. When I
checked my lines, there seemed to be more errors in some lines than in
AR7, some of them sloppy editing and impossible and inconsistent dates.
