Under the Paulet entry on page 570 we have
10.Thomas Poynings (or Saint John) he married (1) before 1376 Joan Le Strange (2) Philippe Mortimer (3) Maud Mauley

CP Volume X Page 667 makes the first wife a plain Joan, without surname or parents and no marriage date.

on page 571 this starts with
11. Hugh Poynings (or Saint John) born about 1381 (of age in January 1401/2) He married Elizabeth Ferrers and Eleanor Welles.

CP Volume X Page 668 starts with the same Hugh Poynings, but "was presumably of age in February 1393/4 footnote (a)

(a) When he joined his father in recognizance (Cal.Close Rolls, 1392-96 page 255)

Richardson applied apparently "a rule of thumb" as he was of age in 1401/2 he must have been born about 1381. However, if he was already of age in 1393/4, according to the same rule he would have been born 1373/4. This makes the date for the first marriage well and truly _before_ 1376, probably by two or three years. Did Richardson find information not known to CP to give the date of birth so very different from CP?

Best wishes
