George Lucas of Lucas Arts, a descendant of the House of Lan

Hi. I have been looking at the ancestry of George Lucas. Interestingly
he is a second sousin of former Secretary of Agriculture, Anne M.
Veneman. More intersting though is a possible descent from Jean de
Lannoy (d. 1525). I will paste the line in here:

I would be greatfull if anyone can verify the people between Louis Du
Bois and Jean de Lannoy. I did see a different version of this line,
that again goes back to Jean de Lannoy. The one I have chose seems more
relaible. It comes from Colonial Families in the U.S. by George
Mackenzie. The earlier generation are my own research. The middle
generations are from various books, including two on the Van Meteren
family.

1 Jean de Lannoy b. _____ d. 1525 m. Philippe de Planes

I would have thought the line would go back to them, but am not keyed
up on French egenealogy.

This is what it says in the Colonial Families book:

MACQUAIRE DU BOIS, Count de Roussey, in 1110, whose ancestor built the
Castle de Roussey in 948 and added this patronymic to his title.
Macquaire's son was Hugh DE ROUSSEY, surnamed “Cholot” whose fourth
son not succeding to the title, perpetuated the line under the title of
“Seignieurs de Bois de Mane” for fifteen generations, when GUILLAME
DU BOIS, in 1488, took the title de Roussey, the gr. gd. son of Hughes
du Bois perpetuated this line of Seignieurs DU PIERREPONT for twelve
generations when both branches took the name DE ROUSSEY. The Castle de
Roussey was situated in Artois, France. The line of descent from
Charles DU BOIS and Claude DE LANNOY was: EUSTACHE, Seignieur des
Querder and de Fiennee; m. (1st) Gille DE RENEL; m. (2d) Jeanne ST. OL.
GUISLAN DES FIENNES, Count de Clarmont, who m. Jeanne DE LONGUEVILLE.
MARC DE FIENNES, Seignieur des Querder; m. Madelaine D'OGNIES.
MAXMILLIAN DE FIENNES, Seignieur des Querder; m. Catharine Cecil
GERMEND.
MAXMILLIAN DES FIENNES, m. Louise Charlotte D'ETAMPS.
CHARLES MAXMILLIAN DES FIENNES, m. Henrietta de Reignier DE BOISLEAU.
CHAETIEN MAXMILLIAN DES FIENNES, m. (not on record, but a Huguenot, as
supposed by M. le Turcq, of the Genelogie Institute of France–record
erased).
LOUIS DU BOIS DE FIENNES, b. 21st October, 1626; m. Catherine BLACHAN,
dau. of Mathys BLACHAN, a Burgher of Mannheim, Germany, 10th October,
1655

the 21st October, 1626 is a baptism.

The Chipp family in England and America also says that CHAETIEN is a
descendant of GUISLAN, but does not give the line. This also appears in
other books.

Interesting stuff.

Probably just a typo, but you show GLs mother dying five years before
his birth?

Thanks for pointing that out. It should read 1989.

Dear David,
How fascinating! Are you aware that, if the Du Bois generations can be
verified, George Lucas descends from William the Conqueror, Alfred the
Great, Charlemagne, Geoffrey V of Anjou (Plantagenet), Isaac II Angelos,
Emperor of Byzantium, Eleanor of Poitou, David the Saint, KIng of Scots, El
Cid, St.Olav II, King of Norway, and many others.
Best wishes
