Sandford of Thorpe Salvain

Hi all

I have a question about the ancestry of Sir Bryan Sandford of Thorpe
Salvain. He died at the Battle of Bosworth Filed in 1485. Leo shows
him married to Elizabeth Greene of the Greene's of Greene's Norton.

William Arthur Cecil Sandford in A History of the Family of Sandford
(etc) published in 1924, ed. 1950 available online says he was
descended from Sir Edmund Sandford, King's esquire and High Sheriff of
Yorkshire who married Joan Uchtred (and also Katherine ____). Sir
Edmund was apparently the son of John Sandford of Thorpe Salvain by his
wife Isabel de Norwicke. These Sandfords are alleged to be descended
from the Sandfords of Sandford as W. A. C. Sandford outline in his
book.

HOwever, he does not give the descent to Sir Bryan S. who died in 1485.
He says it was printed in "The Sheffield Daily Telegraph" on the 1st
of August 1927.

Has anyone seen the newspaper article or know the descent from Sir
Edmund S. to the Sir Bryan S. who died in 1485? Is there a good
reference for Sandford of Thorpe Salvain?

Thanks

Doug Smith
