I am one of those that might lose the ancestry to Mary Gye via Baynton, but I have long felt that this was a very weak link. It needs to be proved one way or the other for sure.
Tony Inghams report shows the probable errors made in the Etchingham line in the Plantagenet books. Also note that Alice Batisford was 1st wife , not 2nd wife of William Echyngham as found in several sources. Also that the Elizabeth mentioned in the Winchelsea Inquisition dated 1415 went on to marry Thomas Hoo and then Thomas Lewknor. Elizabeth is mentioned as a sister of Thoma Echungham died 1444 in his will. Was she 1/2 sister or full sister. Even though the Winchelsea inquisition calls them daughters of William Echyngham and Joan his wife, and that they inherited from the mother Joan, I would like to see who owned the land they inherited. I think that would settle the question very well. Was it a Batisford ,Peplesham or Arundel land.
