Thank you Michael and Tim.

I very much appreciate your input.

Michael, thanks for the info abt. the Curwen achievement. The arms I'm
*most* anxious to find are those of a medieval Curwen-with-a-crescent,
denoting a second son -- if one exists. The pedigree you referred me to
added some information to what I already had on that family, so I thank you
for that, too.

And Tim, I appreciate the heraldry FAQ info -- I will pursue it. I
(obviously) don't know very much about the subject.

Best, BarBara

The arms with the crescent for difference technically belong to EVERY
second son in each generation i.e. the 2nd son of every head of the
Curwen family will bear the Curwen arms with a crescent for difference.
And so will the eldest son of every 2nd son, ad infinitum. This can
beome confusing, which is partly why the display of quarterings are
important and partly why these marks of cadency aren't always bothered
with.

Regards

Michael
