William Freville of Little Shelford (c1398-1460) married Anne
Wolferson. Details of her ancestry may be found in the 1619 Visitation
of Warwickshire as published by the Harleian Society, 1877 (Vol. 12, p
75)

Thomas Holbrook, miles
|
John Holbrook married daughter of Robert Burchid
|
Elizabeth daughter & coheir married Robert Fitz Ralf
|
Elizabeth daughter & heir married John Wolferston
|
Anne daughter & heir married William Freville.

Although I can't fathom what this pedigree was doing in the
Warwickshire volume - the protagonists were Cambridge and Suffolk
landowners - it does appear to be largely correct. The verification
process allows for an additional strand of Freville ancestry to be
identified.

The key to this is a document quoted at p 15 of Volume VIII of the
PRO's Calendar of Inquisitions Miscellaneous (1422-1485):

"Commission to enquire re certain wards, marriages etc, writ dated 12
April 1429. Inquiry at Cattawade, 21 May [1429]: Sir Thomas de
Holbrook seized of the manors of Brokes Hall, Foxworth, Langeston and
Rendlesham, and advowsons of Rendlesham, Bucklesham, Wenham Magna and
Holton; in 1353 a fine was levied and the estates granted for life to
Thomas, with remainders to Thomas his son, then John also his son and
Maud the daughter of Robert Bourgchier, knight, with remainder to the
right heirs of the plaintiff. Thomas the father died, and after him
Thomas the son; John and Maud therefore were seized of the premises.
They had issue: Margery, who married John son of Hugh Fastolf, and
Elizabeth married Robert FitzRauf. John and Maud died. Robert and
Elizabeth had issue, Elizabeth, and died. In 1377 there was a further
grant to John, son of Hugh Fastolf and Margery, and the heirs of the
body of Margery, with remainder to the right heirs of John Holbrook;
Margery was then a minor aged 17 years, and Elizabeth, the daughter of
Robert and Elizabeth, a minor of 3 years. Afterwards, John and Margery
[Fastolf] died, leaving issue, Hugh, who died leaving issue, John
Fastolf, a minor of 20 years and more in the King's ward. Elizabeth,
the daughter of Robert and Elizabeth, married Roger Woferston and had
issue, three daughters: Beatrice now wife of Thomas (sic), aged 36,
Elizabeth now wife of William Tenderyng, aged 28, and Anne now wife of
William Freyvill, aged 26. Roger and Elizabeth are now dead.
Beatrice, Elizabeth and Anne are the next heirs of John, son of Thomas
de Holbrook, knight, by Maud."

Thus a fuller stemma for the Holbrooks is as follows:

1. Sir Thomas de Holbrook, of Holbrook, Suffolk; IPM 34 Edward III:
lands at "Rendlesham, Naketon, Langiston, Hawetre, Foxole, Bokelysham
and Levington; died Wednesday the feast of St John Before the Latin
Gate last"; heir: his son John, aged 28. Issue:

1a. Thomas Holbrook, first remainderman under re-grant of 1353; said to
have died after his father [Cal. Inq. Misc. supra] although not the
heir under the IPM of 34 Ed III; apparently died without issue.

1b. John Holbrook, born circa 1332; heir to his father, 1360; IPM 49
Edward III: "Suffolk: Holbrook, Tattyngston, Naketon, manor called
Sholondehalle; he died 18 September last; Margery one of his daughters
and heirs aged 16 and more, wife of John Fastolf, and Elizabeth aged 2
and more, daughter of Elizabeth his other daughter late the wife of
Robert Fith (sic) Rauf are next heirs of him and Maud his first wife;
Sapeston and Wretewell manors were held for life of the courtesy of
England of the inheritance of Maud his second wife - the reversion
beongs to Thomas son and heir of Maud his second wife who is a minor in
the wardship of the Abbot [of St Edmunds]"; married firstly Maud,
daughter of Robert, 1st Baron Bourchier, sometime Lord Chancellor of
England [d 1349]; married secondly, Maud. Issue by first marriage:

2a. Margery Holbrook, born circa 1359; coheiress of her father; married
John Fastolf, son of Hugh Fastolf. Issue:

3a. Hugh Fastolf, dead by 1429 (father of John Fastolf, born circa
1409)

2b. Elizabeth Holbrook, dead by 1376; coheiress (in her issue) of her
father; married Robert FitzRalph. Issue:

3a. Elizabeth FitzRalph, born circa 1374; IPM 16 April 1418 (Cal. IPMs
Vol XXI #264 p 76) "Elizabeth Wolverston: she held of the King: the
soke of Chelmondiston, land in Wolverston, Holbrook, East Bergholt etc;
remainder to Thomas Wolverston and his heirs male"; married Roger
Wolverston. Issue:

4a. Beatrice Wolverston, born circa 1393; married Thomas

4b. Elizabeth Wolverston, born circa 1401; married William Tendring

4c. Anne Wolverston, born circa 1403, married William Freville, MP, of
Little Shelford

By virtue of her descent from Robert Bourchier, Anne Wolverston brought
into the Freville family a line from the Munchensi family of Stansted,
as well as one from Henry de Essex, sometime Standard-Bearer of
England.
