Richardson discrepancy or vagueness?

Continuing the Sutton family in Richardson's book "Plantagenet Ancestry" pages 277 and 278.

12. John Sutton married before 10 December 1401 Constance Blount widow of Hugh Hastings (CP Volume VI page 357 calls him Hastinges).

Why this precise date? What happened on 10 December 1401?

If you go to CP Volume IV page 479, as well as Richardson's Plantagenet Ancestry page 278, there is an indication which should give a very different marriage date.

Both tell that the _legitimate_ son of John Sutton and Constance Blount was born 25 December 1400. And so the marriage date should be at least a year and a half before the one quoted by Douglas Richardson. It should say, at least, married before 25 December 1400 as at present Richardson is implying that the son _could_ have been born illegitimately.

Any clarification?
Best wishes
