While I've been able to find a great deal on the d'Amboise of the 12th
century and prior, I am having trouble finding a connection, if any, to
Hugues, Lord of Chaumont & Sainte-Verain, who died at Agincourt. He was
married to Jeanne de Guenand. I have the generations stemming from him,
but not his own recent ancestors. Any help would be appreciated -

Bronwen,
I guess you're looking at the ancestry of Catherine de Balsac? The
Amboise family are certainly in Pere Anselme, which I recall being
mentioned as being available online at the Gallica site; and I think
they are in ES as well. There seems to be some confusion about who was
the mother of Hugues, but she was one or other of the two Joinville
wives of his father (also Hugues). Hugues' wife Jeanne de Guenand
appears to have been his second cousin. Say if you'd like the actual
line as given- it's basically a succession of Jean and Hugues.

Re: looking for 14th century d'Amboise
Thank you for the reply. I checked Gallica but my (non-existent) French
prevented me from making good use of the site. I am not looking for the
ancestry of Catherine de Balzac but for that of Marie d'Amboise (d.
1501) who married Jean d'Hangest, Lord of Senlis. This is a connection
in my own family background. You have been kind to offer but I need it
in English (I am embarrassed to say) and do not have access to ES.
Thanks, Bronwen

Re: looking for 14th century d'Amboise
Dear Bronwen,
As pointed out, the d'Amboise family is in volume XIII of ES, I am looking
at it at the moment.
My question is, from whom are you looking for a link with this Hugues?
This page indicates they are not sure wihich wife of his father (2nd or 3rd)
is the mother of Hugues and he had two children, a son Pierre ( he had about
17 children) and a daughter who married Antoine de Prie.
Best wishes

Re: looking for 14th century d'Amboise
Dear Bronwen,
Why didn't you say this in the first place?
Your first request was
incomplete, naughty girl
the Hangest family is one which intrigues me a great deal as there is a
Dutch family van Hangest d'Yvoy who have a Barons title, this family goes
back to about 1600 and may not be the same family, but I am waffling you
don't want to hear this.
ES volume XIII Tafel 4
Marie d'Amboise, made her will 5 June 1501, she was married to Jean de
Hangest, Seigneur de Genlis, he died in 1490 and was buried in Rouen in the
church "eglise des Celestins".
Marie's parents are
Pierre d'Amboise Seigneur de Chaumont de Meillant de Sagonne des Bordes et
de Bussy, (in 1466 because of his betrayal of King Louis XI confiscated "I
presume all properties?") he died 28 June 1473 in the Chateau de Meillant,
and was buried in Sainte Claire de Bourges. His marriage was contracted 23
August 1428 to Anne de Bueil, she died after 1 December 1458 and was a
daughter of Jean IV de Bueil,
and here I stop because I am wasting time, yours and mine, go to my website
http://www.genealogics.org as there you can find Marie d'Amboise with her
husband, two children, parents, grandparents (4) greatgrandparents (7)
great-great-grandparents (6) and many more.
This Marie d'Amboise has impressive ancestors: for instance
Jean de Brienne, Emperor of Constantinople
Alfonso IX, KIng of Leon
Alfonso VIII, King of Castile
Alfonso I, King of Portugal
Henry II, King of England
Eleanor de Poitou, Queen of France and England
Louis VI, King of France
Stephen de Blois, King of France
William the Conqueror
Charlemagne
Hope this helps. I would love to see the line you have to this Hangest
family.

Re: looking for 14th century d'Amboise
Thank you for your generous and prompt replies. My porchlight must have
been flickering when I initially consulted Genealogics (usually the
first place I look), as I had come away thinking that the line did not
continue past the Hugues in question. Now I look again and find that
someone has tightened my lightbulb a bit, and so I found what I was
looking for. Thank you for your patience as well - Bronwen

Bronwen,
I'm glad to see that Leo has solved the problem while I slept! This
Marie d'Amboise and Jean de Hangest are in fact
great-great-grandparents of Catherine de Balsac, so I hope you'll
forgive me for making that connection- Matthew

Yes, to my continuing embarrassment, I also saw that she was there but
didn't remember that when I first replied to your reply. And doesn't
Leo solve most problems around here? :-} You have also been a
great help so thank you. Best, Bronwen
