Hello List,
I am a newcomer here. I have a Family Tree of EDWARD TRISTRAM "of the Welsh marshes near Ludlow", he marries FILIA de TALBOT of the kin of the Earl of Shrewsbury. (no dates given)
However, children William obit. 1537, Edward 1507 and Richard...........
I have been unable to identify FILIA de TALBOT......it appears she was probably born in the latter half of the 15th century. The family was situated in SHROPSHIRE.
Can anyone help me here?
With thanks,
Robyn

Forgive me if I'm stating the obvious, but "filia" in Latin means
"daughter", so the pedigree is just claiming that Edward's wife was a
Talbot, but that her name and her father's are unknown. The absence of first
names may be an indication that she was identified on the basis of heraldry.
It will be difficult to identify her without some more information. There
are a number of places you could look. If you have access to a good library,
it may be worth trying Eyton's "Antiquities of Shropshire", to try to
discover some more information about the Tristrams.

Re: Earl of Shrewsbury-Filia de Talbot
Chris:
I am wondering if the filia (daughter) of Talbot isn't possibly the same as,
or related to, Catherine Talbot, wife of Sir. Nicholas Eyton, who has
proven to be so elusive that (1) some of us Eyton/Eytons wonder whether she
existed at all (2) was illegitimate or (3) was not a daughter but some other
relation of the Earl.
The timing seerms off, although the issue of existence is certainly related.
Here is a brief summary of the reference in The rev. R. W. Eyton's
Antiquities of Shropshire, which 12 volumes you will not find very easily,
even at major U.S. Libraries. There is one full set at the Shropshire public
Records Office in Shrewsbury, UK.
Sir Nicholas Eaton, son of Georgius (george), married Katerina (Catherine)
Talbott (Talbot), daughter of John Talbot (first) Earl of Shrewsbury, also
lord Furnival. In the Herald's Visitations of 1423 Nicholas was Lord of
Eyton(on-the-Weald-Moor, County Shropshire) and "Sir Nicholas Eyton of
Wigmore, a knight." He was Sheriff of the County of Salop and
representative in Parliament in 1449, 1450.
If anyone has information about Catherine, I would be most appreciative if
you would share it. Aside from the Eyton references, and others borrowed
from him, I can find almost no other mentions of this reputed daughter.
