Lt.Col John Pilkington in 1912 produced a book "History of the Pilkington Family of Lancs and its branches from 1066 to 1600".
In this book is mentioned Sir Roger de Pilkington born ca.1255 - died after 11 July 1322.
I have only his first wife Amery de Barton but as she is recorded as a first wife there must have been a second.
CP Volume XII/1 page 580
Adam de Swillington, 1st Lord Swillington, he married (1) Joan, _probably_ daughter of and co-heir of John Dyve (2) on or before 9 May 1323 Marjory widow of Roger de Pilkington.
This not well recorded Marjory (who were her parents?) was she that second wife of the Roger de Pilkington who had married first Amery de Barton? And was Roger a knight or not?
Adam de Swillington's son and heir who was his mother? Adam died probably in the middle of June 1328, almost certainly before 28 August 1328. In December 1330 Robert de Walkefare obtained a grant of the marriage of Adam Jr. Was this Adam Jr. about six years old at that time? In 1346 Adam Jr. is described as _chivaler_ and in 1347 exonorated from all demands to supply men-at-arms. His wife's name and her parents, nor a marriage date for Adam is known.
Adam Sr. also had a son Sir Robert who died in 1391 and therefor should be a younger son, who was his mother?
Many thanks.

Re: Swillington - Pilkington question
Leo,
VCH Lancs V:129 identifies the wives of this Ralph as (1) Alice de Otteby,
daughter of Sir Ralph de Otteby of Otteby, Lincolnshire and Margaret
__________. The former was mother of sons Roger, Alexander and Richard and
the latter was mother of son William. This source also identifies that
marriage of Margaret to Adam de Swillington.

RE: Swillington - Pilkington question
Leo
Some years ago I extracted the following from Pilkington, John - The history
of the Pilkington family of Lancashire and its branches from 1066 to 1600
compiled from ancient deeds, charters, pipe rolls .... etc. 3rd ed.
Liverpool C. Tinling & Co. 1912.
Sir Roger de Pilkington, knight bachelor, born about 1249. Died in 1322
Lord of Pilkington, Chetham and Crompton also held lands in Barton and in
Rivington. Fought at the battle of Bannockburn 1314. His first marriage is
given as ? De Barton and the issue of this marriage was:
1. Sir Roger de Pilkington (abt. 1291 died 1348 married Alicia de Bury)
2. William - in Lancs. Fine of 1312 called William brother of Roger son of
Roger. In 1341 appointed Rector of Swillington.
Sir Roger's second wife is given as Alice dau. of Sir Ralph de Otteby who on
6th April 1295 settled on Roger and Alice and her issue the manor of Otteby
co. Lincoln, which after her death was seized by the Crown on Roger's
attainder. (Sir Roger was imprisoned at Tickhill Castle in 1322 for siding
with Thomas Earl of Lancaster, but later pardoned on the payment of a fine
of 300 marks).
By Alice de Otteby he had issue:
3. Alexander, who in 1323 recovered the manor of Otteby by petitioning the
King and in 1346 paid a subsidy to knight the King's eldest son.
Sir Roger married for the third time, Margery [? De Middleton] about 4
Edward II, when Robert son of Roger de Middleton jointly enfeoffed Margery
and her husband of lands in Great Lever [add. MS 32, 106 No: 24). After Sir
Roger's death in 1322 she married Sir Adam de Swillington. Her issue from
the marriage with Sir Roger was:
4. Richard - styled "Richard son of Roger brother of William and brother of
Adam (Pat. Rolls 1333 & 1337). In 1323 he was partly to a Lancs. Fine and
described as "Chaplain".
5. Adam - mentioned in Pat. Roll 11 Edw. II.
Hope this is of some use.
