_Beaumonts in History_ by Edward T. Beaumont states that the above
Robert married first Emma, daughter of Roger de Breteuil, who died
childless, married second Godechilde de Couches, daughter of Roger de
Toeni, and was divorced from her, married third Isabel (or Elizabeth),
daughter of Hugh the Great, Count of Vermandois et cetera.

In regard to the divorce, the author cites Dugdale's BARONAGE, I, 84. My
question is whether anyone believes there is convincing evidence for the
relationships in the first paragraph. And as a second question, I would
like to inquire whether anyone familiar with the work by Edward T.
Beaumont can offer a thought as to its general reliability.

Complete Peerage (vii 526) shows only the marriage to Isabel of Vermandois,
but notes that Orderic Vitalis states that he married firstly Godechilde,
daughter of _Ralph_ de Tosny. But this is dismissed as "highly improbable",
on the grounds that (as Orderic says) she afterwards married Baldwin of
Boulogne, afterwards King of Jerusalem, and that Prderic doesn't suggest
that her marriage to Robert, was annulled.

I don't know about "Emma, daughter of Roger de Breteuil", but the Honor of
Breteuil was later brought to the family by Amice, daughter of Ralph of
Gael, the wife of Robert's son Robert.
