Now that it appears we are back to discussing genealogy; I will ask this again.
Is Philip FitzRobert De Gay, born c1122 died c1167, father of Aline De Gay
who married Alan Bassett, really the son of Robert of Gloucester born c1090
died Oct 31 1147?
Thank you,

Re: Philip De Gay/Gai
The answer is no. Doug Richardson has posted that the parents of Philip
Gai are Stephen Gai of Northbrook and his wife Aline Pipard, heiress of
Wooton and daughter of Walter Pipard who was also married to John Fitz
Gilbert. However whether Aline is the mother of Philip has been
disputed. In any case Robert of Gloucester does not get a look in. Try
searching the archives under aline pipard there was a relevant thread
titled "Chronology of Philip de Gay (and a DD Correction)" from April
this year.

Re: Philip De Gai:Robert of Glouc.-Possible
Good Evening Edward,
Louise, do not be to hasty!!Philip Gay/Gai/Jay or originally "Iay" is
listed as a kinsman of Robert, Earl of Gloucester. "Kinsman" used in many
different variations, natural son possible, as it, "kinsman", is mentioned
in the above reference in:
Flor. Wigorn. II, 109, year 1138.
Best Regards,
Emmet L. Butler

I suspect if he was son, Florence would have said (natural) son. More
likely he was kinsman of Robert through the latter's mother, Henry's

Agreed - NB "Florence", as the chronicler used to be called, is now usually
identified as John of Worcester.
