Assistance on Richard and William Boteler

Good Evening,
Tracking down the many Boteler/Butler families and allied families, I am
partially stuck on William and Richard Boteler of Harford, Conn. and was
hoping that some of you with far greater knowledge and recoreds than I may
be able to help. It would be appreciated very much. What I have from
location, time period, and family association, it would appear that Deacon
Richard and his brother William were the sons of William Boteler, son of
John Boteler of Woodhall, Hertford. Having viewed Richards original
signature they way he spells his name altho not proof, spelled Buttler and
the way Sir Robert Botelers name is spelled on the tomb of Sir Dru Drury,
his daughter having married Robert, they are spelled the same. It is
widely viewed, his first wife was a Banbury, but could easily have been
meant as a relation to the Francis Knolly Banbury barons that intermarried
with related Butler families. It is also viewed that his 2nd wife,
Elizabeth Bigelo/bagueley/beagely-many variants of spelling, was Sir John
Winthrops neice or grand daughter thru a possible 2nd marriage of Randall,
Elizabeths father. This may well be logical, as the related family members
were all involved in the cloth industry and connected in one way or
another to Winthrops fleet. His brother Williams will refers to a sister
that married a West and another that married a Winter, there are some
marriages of the same time of the family related to the Wests and the
Winters, or could be that the early Puritans called each other brother and
sister etc. I do not know. I have a very distant cousin in the Bermuda
that "paid" a geneaologist that claims his father was a Stephen and his
father was a John, John-maybe it fits, Stephen not unless it was in
conjunction with William. The family did well, and the wills left a goodly
sum of money in those day 600-700 pounds, a good upper middle class sum
for those days and they were made free men quickly, Sir John Winthrops
son, who held many governmental posts, it took him nearly 2 decades, the
pieces are there, I just need a tad bit more data to complete it.
Any thoughts would much appreciated.
Best Regards,
Emmett Butler
