James Walwyn

Does anyone who is working on the Walwyns have any information or references
to a James Walwyn in the late fifteenth century, or first half of the
sixteenth century?
He was married to Elyn and was a citizen and mercer of St Sepulchre,
London. His will was proved in the Commissary Court of London in 1542.
Richard Billingsley of St Sepulchre who died in a year or two earlier in
1540/1 refers in his will to James Walwyn as his uncle.
Thanks,
Luke

Hi again Luke- as came up recently, I have collected various
information on the Walwyns in Herefordshire. None of it seems to
mention a James at that period, although I don't doubt that he was a
cadet of the family there. James does crop up as a popular name in the
Longworth branch from the 17th C onwards, and may well have been used
before then.

It struck me that there is an early penchant in the family for Scottish
first names- a Malcolm in the 14/15th C and an Alexander in the
15/16th. Whether this was a sign of some family link, or something
else, is a mystery. But James might not be part of that at any rate, as
the name could have been adopted by association with the Audley family
who were overlords in Much Marcle (Marcle Audley).

I hope this negative information is at least better than no
information!
