The name was often spelled Souche in medieval sources. I assume Zouche
pronounced similar to Souche.

In the place name, Ashby de la Zouche, it's pronounced "Zoosh".
The Lord Zouche who lived in Melbourne for many years called himself "Zooch"
rather than "Zoosh" - perhaps because the latter sounds a bit like a
plumbing noise.
