RPA correction - in MCA? Stanley of Hooton

It appears there's been a recent "discovery" regarding the family of Stanley of Hooton - or perhaps a previously unadmitted "correction" to RPA (just published in 2004).

RPA gives the following sequence for the Stanleys of Hooton:

Sir William Stanley; m. Blanche Arderne
William Stanley; m. (1) Mary Savage, (2) Alice de Hoghton
[by 1st wife] Sir William Stanley; m. (1) Margaret Bromley, (2) Agnes Grosvenor

Very quickly after the publication of RPA, Brice Clagett (on 7/19/2004) questioned this arrangement:

" Page 290 says that Sir William Stanley of Hooton (c. 1405-1466)
married (1) Mary Savage, (2) Alice de Hoghton, and son William was
by the first marriage. I have seen various conflicting sources as to the
order of the two marriages and as to which wife was the mother of
son William."

Doug Richardson quickly responded on 7/20/2004:

" As you indicated, there are various accounts of the Stanley family of
Hooton in print, none of them entirely satisfactory. I believe my
arrangement is correct. "

As recently as March 3 of this year, Richardson declined to state that the RPA version was incorrect But apparently it wasn't correct, because the newly published MCA gives this sequence for the Stanleys of Hooton (which it seems is based on the research of Todd Whitesides, posted on SGM/Gen-Med earlier this year):

Sir William Stanley; m. (2) Blanche Arderne [no indication of who the 1st wife was]
William Stanley; m. (1) Mary Savage [no indication of who the 2nd wife was]
William Stanley; m. Alice de Hoghton [or Houghton]
Sir William Stanley; m. (1) Margaret Bromley, (2) Agnes Grosvenor

There has been much confusion over the Stanleys of Hooton, and this version matches at least one "traditional" version (with the possible exception of the supposed multiple marriages of the first two Williams). On the other hand, the RPA sequence was also a commonly accepted "traditional" version and was defended rather strongly some years ago in this forum. What are the current thoughts of others in the group regarding the Stanleys of Hooton?
