Dallingridge Family
I'd like to find an article which Nigel Saul wrote for the Sussex
Archaelogical Collection 136 (1998), entitled "The Rise of the
Dallingridge Family".
Anyone know where I might find a copy please??

I got my back copies of SAC from Holleyman & Treacher, London; however,
it appears they've gone out of business. See

The bad news is that the Sussex Archaeological Society starts at 1999, and I
think you wanted 1998?
However, if you are successful in finding the Dallingridge article, I would
be interested to know if there has been any recent developments.

I phoned Sussex Archaelogical Society, as Chris suggested, and their
librarian is copying the article for me. The required volume was on
their shelves.
From their site, it would appear that they've been around since 1846.
Their records must go back quite a long way.
What sort of developments were you looking for??

I ran a check through Family Search which came up with Phillippa as
dau to Walter. I was a little sceptical because it was a patron
submission, rather than extraction. The name is too unusual for there
not to have been a connection between Edward and Walter.
Yes, please, I would very much appreciate a scan of the relevant
pages. You should have mail.
I don't know how the mailing list works and whether GoogleGroups would
have your previous posts, but I will have a rummage through there.

The National Trust's guide to Bodiam Castle (first published 1991)
has a good account of the Dalyngrigges, including a sketch of the
tomb brass of Sir Walter and Lady Dalynggrigge (c 1390) in
Fletching Church, Sussex. This guide corrects the genealogy of
the family, as given by SAC Vol III (1849) p 81. This SAC
article states that the eventual heir to Bodiam castle was
Philippa (m1 Sir R Barnes, m2 Sir Thomas Lewknor) dau and heir of
Sir Edward Dalyngrigge by Elizabeth Wardeux, but in fact she was
dau and eventual heir of Walter D., brother to Sir Edward D.
I've made posts here in the past on this subject, but if you
would like a scan of the relevant pages from the National Trusts
Guide, let me have a private email address.

By the way, did you see in the Archaeology Data Service website for
SAC 1999, there was a good article on Sir Thomas Lewknor with
referances to the Dalyngrigges?
