WARNING ---DEFAMATION
My fellow colleagues should be aware that these newsposts are possibly
subject to many different national laws on defamation some of which are
transnational in nature. See for example

I leave it for you to draw your own conclusions.
Kind Regards

Re: WARNING ---DEFAMATION
Much as I would like to see all the defamation go away from this Newsgroup, I think the operative sentence in this document is the
following
To have the defamation go away, you'd first have to have defamation.
Low-level insults aren't defamation.
Please stop reading the threads that discomfit you. There aren't very
many.

Re: WARNING ---DEFAMATION
Much as I would like to see all the defamation go away from this
Newsgroup, I think the operative sentence in this document is the
following:
"the likelihood of enforcing any future Australian judgment in favour of
the respondent in the United States will be low if it offends the First
Amendment."
Judgments against multinational corporations may be enforced, at least
if they have assets in the jurisdiction of the court granting the
judgment, but unlikely that they could be enforced against individuals
whose assets are beyond the reach of the court.

Re: WARNING ---DEFAMATION
Hi Doug,
What a bunch of whining, deceitful people we have on the newsgroup,
huh?
Later today I'll post a few clues for you (or anyone interested,
really)--they may lead to some new lines for the New England immigrant
George1 Portage/ Pordage (an ancestor of the late great Mr. John Kerry,
among others).
http://www.usgennet.org/usa/topic/newen ... rtmont.htm
Waters, in Genealogical Gleanings, abstracted a few wills he thought
applied to Joshua Pordage, George's father. I'm no longer able to
access the _Register_ online (only subscribed to the paper journals
this year). But I remember one of the wills mentioned a Walter Hampton
and his wife Mary--obviously the Walter Hampton and Mary MELLISH who
married in 1649 at Sanderstead, Surrey, per the IGI. This Mellish
family was prominent.

Re: WARNING ---DEFAMATION
As I recall, the will in question was that of Rebecca Angell, widow of
London (1677). Rebecca Mellish and John Angel were married 1659, also
at Sanderstead.

Re: WARNING ---DEFAMATION
Okay, here are some factoids that may prove of interest if it turns out
that the Pordages were connections of the Mellishes of Sanderstead:
Sanderstead, Surrey, England VRs
14 Sept. 1630, Marie Mellish, daughter of George
28 July 1633, Ruth Mellish, daughter of George
7 Feb. 1637, Rebekah Mellish, daughter of George and Mary
7 Sept. 1642, Thomas Yonge to Elizabeth Mellish
6 Nov. 1649, Walter Hampton to Mary Mellish
21 July 1659, John Angel to Rebekah Mellish
Manning & Bray's _Surrey_:
vol. 2, p. 565:
M.I. at Addington, Surrey--"I.H.S. Under this stone is buried the
bodie of Henry Kynnersley, Merchant of London, the 7th sonne of Walter
Kynnersley of Loxeley in com. Stafford, Gent. which family aunciently
descended from Kynnersley Castle in com. Hereford. His wife was Mary
the dughter of Geroge Boteler in com. Leicester Gent. by whome hee had
one sone, John, who dyed in Frannce about 30ty years past, and two
daughters Mary and Eliza[be]th; Marie wife to George Mellishe of
Sanderstead, in com. sur. Gent. and Elizabeth relict to Daniell Harvey
of Combe in the Parish of Croydon in com. Surr. Esq. Both of them
mothers of many children, and happie in ther issue. Hee was a true
paterne of humilitie, industry, and pietie, and dyed most Christianlike
the first of Aprill anno Dni 1647, about the age of 80 yeares."
vol. 2, p. 574-75:
M.I. at Sandersted, Surrey--"On a black stone on the floor: In memory
of George Mellishe of Sanderstead in the countie of Surrey Gent. who
departed this life upon Ascension-day being the 4th of May 1654, of
whom the monument in the wall speaks more fully."
The wall monument is in Latin, and seems to say the following things
(my Latin is not good):
--George Mellish, citizen and merchant of London, son of John Mellish,
citizen and merchant
--first wife, Katharine, daughter of Richard Clarke, citizen of London
--another wife, Mary, daughter of Henry Kinnersley of London, merchant,
widow of William Baker of Swindon
--children Henry, Daniel, Anne, Mary, and Rebecca
--buried May 10, 1654, aged 73 years

Bingo! from the jaw of the ass himself.
Paul Reed has been obliged to make a forensic exposure of Brandon's
shameless deceit, with a telling glance at Hines, while Richardson's habits
are a matter of daily record.
We are STILL waiting for ANY attempt to justify ANY of the charges made by
ANY of these deceivers against others.

Hmmm... I'm reminded why I keep leaving this group
I keep coming back *hoping* that I can start getting answers to
genealogical-questions,
but all I keep seeing is mud-slinging contests
When will I learn to give up hope ?
