1MM/1/3/25a - date: c1505
hit[from Scope and Content] The uses are those of articles
of marriage made between sir Wm. Tirwhit and sir John Skipwith, 1st
July, 1505, except for the manor of Calthorpe and lands in Grainthorpe
reserved for Dame Kateryn, sir John's wife, for her life, the reversion
to be to Wm Skipwith, son and heir of sir John.

(1) Sir Thomas de Layburn.

(2) Thomas Flemyng.

Terms: (2) to take Isabel, daughter of (1), as his wife before 24 June
next; and (1) to pay to (2) 80 marks by instalments of £20 on the
wedding day, £10 at Martinmas 1396, £10 at Pentecost 1397, 10 marks
at Martinmas 1397 and 10 marks at Pentecost 1398, and (1) to provide
wedding apparel for Isabel "as befits a gentle lady of her estate"; (2)
to enfeoff before the wedding Richard Mercer of Kendal and Thomas
Laweswater, chaplains, with the manors of Beckermet and Urswick, of the
value of 6 marks per annum, the chaplains then to re-grant the same to
prevent reprise by fee-simple, within twenty days of the wedding to (2)
and Isabel, and heirs male of their bodies with reversions by default
of heirs to John Flemyng, brother of (2) and his heirs male, or to the
right heirs of (2).

Sureties: (1) bound in 160 marks to John de Washyngton, of Barton, John
de Berewyk, Robert Prerson of Kendal, William Dawnay, John de Layburn,
Richard Edeson, Thomas de Pykering of Skelsmergh and John Ibbotson the
elder, and (2) bound in £100 to John de Lamplugh, John Flemyng and
Walter de Osmonderlawe for performances of the covenants above.

(2) John Bost, of Penrith, Cumberland.

Terms: (2) will take as wife Mabell, daughter of Margret, and (1) will
pay to (2) the sum of £40 by installments of £20 on the day of the
wedding, 10 marks at Martinmas 1423, 10 marks at Pentecost 1424 and 10
marks at Martinmas 1424, (1) to be seized on his wedding day of all
lands he inherited from his father, John, on his death, and to grant
certain of these lands to two chaplains to the value of 40s. yearly
beyond reprise, the two chaplains then to re-enfeoff John and Mabell
and their heirs, and (1), along with Richard Page and Thomas Crowder to
be bound in a deed of obligation to (2) to perform the above.

Terms: Thomas Flemyng is not to sell any of the manor of Dalemain, nor
his lands in Dacre, Stainton, Newbiggin, Greystoke and Penrith, nor the
farm called "the Mylnrygg" or two farms in Aldby, but to leave all the
above as inheritance to the male heirs of himself and Clary Browgh,
daughter of (2), whom he is to marry, and (2) to leave his two
lordships of Marton and [Upletham], both in Cleveland to his daughter
after his death.

inherit all his lands. Prem. II also leased to (3).

Consideration: Marriage of (3) and (4) before 25 Jul. 1518, they then
to live with (2) and his wife Cecyl and inherit their property.

Consideration: Marriage of James Pygot, son of (1), and Margery Foxe,
dau. of (2) before Michaelmas.

(1) covenants to convey to Sir Richard Deyne, priest, Sir Roger Pygot,
priest, George Pygot, Richard Grene, Matthey Foxe and John Foxe estates
in Somerford to the value of £10, to use of James amd Margery for life
of Margaret Pygot, wife of William Pygot, the estate then to continue
after Margaret's death (1) to convey to the same parties prem. now
occupied by her to use of James and Margery with remainder to (1). If
James dies Margery to enjoy dower for life. If Jarnes predeceases
Margaret, Margery to have for life 1/3 of his possessions. If James
outlives Margaret but predeceases (1), Margery to have 1/3 of
Margaret's prem. If James outlives both Margaret and (1), Margery to
bave 1/3 of all the prem. (1) covenants also to convey prem. to the
aforesaid parties to his use for life with remainder to James. If James
