Chronologically it appears most natural for Dulcia Savage [daughter of John
Savage, Knt.], whose 1464 marriage covenant espoused her with Henry Bold [son
of Richard Bold], to be a daughter of the Sir John Savage who died on 22 Nov
1495. The previous John Savage had died on 29 Jun 1463.
Elizabeth Savage, a known daughter of the Sir John Savage who died in 1495,
had a marriage contract dated in 1458/9.
If Dulcia Savage is this man's daughter, then her mother is Katherine
Stanley, daughter of Thomas, 1st Lord Stanley. The Bold family had close ties with
this immediate Stanley family. Preparing for the 1482 Scottish expedition,
Richard Bold [father-in-law of Dulcia Savage] enfeoffed James Stanley,
Archdeacon of Chester, who was a brother of Katherine (Stanley) Savage, with his
Lancashire lands to provide for the Bold family. Richard was shortly
thereafter made a knight by the 2nd Lord Stanley, another brother of Katherine
(Stanley) Savage. It would be natural for families this enmeshed to be closely
allied by marriage.
The heir of Henry Bold, Knt., [who died by 1497] was Richard Bold, Knt., who
purchased in 1524 a hereditament in Lancashire belonging to John Savage,
Knt. [who died in 1527]. This transaction shows support for a continued
interaction between the Bold, Savage, and Stanley families.
If Dulcia Savage is indeed Katherine Stanley's daughter, then the Eltonhead
family of colonial Maryland and Virginia would have an improved royal descent,
being descended from Dulcia's daughter Maud Bold who was in 1490 contracted
in marriage with Thomas Gerard, Esq., of Ince [who died by 1 Mar 1544/5].

I am not trying to present this as a new line of descent, but am just
seeking comments and assistance on this family.
