I do not have all my sources before me at the moment, but I show Alice
de Basings, wife of Thomas Mackworth, as daughter of Sir John de Basings
(1340-1384). He was too young to have been a son of William de Basing, who
died in 1316, and Margaret de Normanville. Moreover, according to Nigel Saul's
+AF8-Scenes from Provincial Life+AF8- p. 87, William and Margaret had no son John.
I believe that John was a grandson of William and Margaret and therefore that
Alice was a great-granddaughter of Margaret, rather than a granddaughter as
stated in Jeffery Duvall's post of May 10.

Oops. Thanks for pointing that out. VCH Rutland indicates that Alice de
Basings' father, Sir John de Basings (ca. 1341-1384), was the son of Sir
Thomas de Basings (ca. 1301-1349) by an unknown wife, and that he (i.e. Sir
Thomas) was the son of Sir William de Basings (d. 1316) and Margaret de
Normanville (d. 1341). Alice's mother was, I believe, Elizabeth la Zouche.

Sir William de Basings' father is identified as Robert de Basings of London,
perhaps a member of the family of Adam de Basings, Lord Mayor of London in
1251.
