Three things I recently noticed as I was going through some volumes of
the List and Index Society ...
vol. 151 [_Exchequer, Treasury of the Receipt: Ancient Deeds - Series A
(E.40/13673-15068)_]
p. 154:
--Nicholas Brown, of Baddesley, co Warwick esquire [grantor].
--George Catisby, esquire [grantee].
--Manor of Bromon, alias Bromez, in the parishes of Lapworth and
Packwood. (Warwickshire, 16 Henry VII)
p. 160:
Will of Elizabeth Clere, widow, late the wife of Robert Clere, of
Ormesby, esquire, daughter of Thomas Uvedale and Margaret his wife,
relating to lands &c. in Tharston (Therston), Winterton, Somerton,
Ormesby, Clippesby, Tacolneston, Wymondham, and Claydon (Cleydon).
A.D. 1477 (English).
vol. 14 [_Chancery Masters' Exhibits, Part 2_]
p. 89:
--Hayter v. Hunt [title of suit]
--Wills of Alice Hodson and Edmund White with probate Inventories,
bonds, letters of attorney, including an instrument by John Rogers,
President, and [? Increase] Mather, Samuel Andrews, and John Cotton,
Fellows of Harvard College, Massachusetts, appointing John Richards of
Boston to be their general attorney in England, 17 Feb. [? 1662]/3;
Deeds and indentures of fines; Charterparties (various ships).
I'm intrigued by this last item--what business did Harvard College have
in the controversy of Hayter v. Hunt? Apparently there are many
documents, as the counties involved are "London, Gloucester, Middlesex,
Warwick, [and] Worcester," and the range of dates "1663, 1674; 17th
cent.; 1680, 1685; 1695; 1635-1697; 1615; 1624-1639; [and] 1658-1686."

Something very similar to the Brome & Catesby ref. shows up on A2A --
Documents from the collection of Sir Thomas Phillipps

There is also the following, from the "Ferrers of Baddesley Clinton"

It doesn't seem likely that all three wives were actually present at
the sealing of this deed, while Elizabeth Arundel and Lettice Catesby
were two of the Brome wives in question, not merely additional
witnesses.
Is the Catesby wife certainly known to have had the Christian name of
Lettice?
