John Huntington b. 1323

Hi there ...

After a long, LONG night of tree grafting, I finally traced my ancestry
back to a certain John Huntington born in 1323 in England.

This is the John Huntington who had a line running down to several
people named Christopher and Simon who were the ancestors of Presidents
Ulysses S. Grant and Franklin Delano Roosevelt.

Now there doesn't seem to be anything prior to that, but there was a
rather interesting post on this board a few years back that included
the following:

--------------------------------------------
Eustace de Huntedune, de Huntendone 1086 (G Tangwvik, Old English
Bynames, Uppsala 1938); Humphrey de Huntendum 1202 SP1 (Beds); William
de Huntinton c1280 (Subsidy Rolls Worcs); Robert Huntyngdon 1375
(Assize Rolls Lancs.) From Huntingdon (Hunts), or Huntington (Ches,
Hereford, Salop, Staffs, NR Yorks).
--------------------------------------------

Now there are listings for a "John Huntyngdon" in some of the premium
British records on Ancestry.com, but I would imagine that, at that
time, "John Huntyngdon" was as common a name as "John Smith" is today.

Has anyone done any research into this epoch and stumbled across any
additional details on this person?

Thanks!

Ax

Unfortunately, I think you will find that your descent from this person, if
he existed, is in limbo.

I, too, am descended from Simon Huntington, born 1583 Aug 7, married
Margaret Barrett, but Simon's ancestry, as published in the Huntington
family book, was based on research of Gustave Anjou, since found to have
invented some of his "research". I believe the Huntington family
association hired a British genealogist to check out Simon's ancestry, and
they currently believe it is unknown. Perhaps with a fresh start something
valid might be found.
