Ochecote or Edgecote 1540?

I am tracing my Caryll line and have run into a brickwall.

Thomas Caryll was born at Warnham, Sussex and later moved to Ochecote or
Edgecote where he died in 1540 and was buried at the church of Ochecote. In
one source, it says that Ochecote is in Nottinghamshire; in another source
it says Northants or Northamptonshire. I cannot find it in either one, and
wonder if anyone has a source for tracing names of places that have
disappeared or have been swallowed up by larger towns?

Another note mentions his will was proven PCC 25 Alenger. Translation
please? Thank you, Pat Jorgensen

His will is to be found on thi site:

http://www.documentsonline.pro.gov.uk/

Follow the link to "search the wills" and you will find this entry:

Will of Thomas Carill, Merchant of the Staple of the Town of Calais of
Ochecote, Northamptonshire; will proved 24 March 1541.

For a very modest fee you can then download this will.
