In Burke's Peerage 1938 I found that Sir William Brooke (but for the attainder Lord Cobham) married Penelope Hill widow of Arthur Wilmot. Sir William and Penelope Hill had three daughters born (I think) about 1636, 1638 and 1640. Sir William died in 1643 and then Penelop Hill married Edward Russell and had at least three more children, a daughter and two sons, the younger son was born in 1652.
How old was Penelope and who was Arthur Wilmot?
In the Complete Baronetage I found Sir Arthur Wilmot, Baronet. He died _presumably unmarried_ 13 March 1628/29. He did have an illegitimate daughter. But was he unmarried? Is he perhaps the first husband of Penelope Hill? Lets assume she was 19 when she became his widow, makes her born about 1610. Then she was about 26 by the birth of her first child and only 42 by the birth of her last child.
Can anyone add anything to this?
Many thanks

Re: Will Johnson and his quest in regards to Penelope Hill
Leo, I cannot answer your question on who Arthur Wilmot was. A2A shows
exactly zero documents for that name. Other searches in Burke's baronetage and DNB
show nothing at all. So evidently he was a very stay-at-home baronet ...
However on Penelope Hill's second husband Sir William Brooke, thank you for
his death year of 1643. The editor's notes within the Will of Col Francis
Russell state that Sir William was her second husband and "Russell" was her third.
No first name, but we know he was Edward Russell from http://www.thepeerage.com, I
didn't check what their source was for that.
They also state that this Edward was son of George Brooke and Elizabeth Burgh
, that this couple were married AFT 17 Jan 1598/1599 and this George died in
1603. That gives us a very small range for the birth of Sir William Brooke
from 1598/1604.
That is helpful in trying to pin down these other people to particular year
ranges.
Sir William Brooke and Penelope Hill had three daughters, again I'm citing
http://www.thepeerage.com which states their daughters
1) Hill Brooke d 15 May 1704 married abt 25 Dec 1657 Sir William Boothby,
2nd Baronet who d 24 Mar 1706/7 with issue of two sons
2) Margaret Brooke d 6 Jan 1666/7; no marriage data is shown
3) Frances Brooke d 1690 married bef May 1665 Sir Thomas Whitmore who was
buried 21 May 1682 with issue of one daughter Frances who married Richard
/Myddelton/ , 3rd Baronet abt 1685/6

VVILLIAM BROOKE, who but for the attainder would have been Lord COBHAM, and
who, occasionally, has been so designated, nephew and heir, being son and
heir of George BROOKE (attainted and executed for high treason, at Winchester,
and buried in the Cathedral there, 5 December 1603], by Elizabeth, daughter of
Thomas (BURGH or BOROUGH), LORD BURGH (of Gainsborough),which George Brooke
was brother to the last Lord Cobham. He was born 1598, and by Act of
Parliament 1610, was restored in blood and to some small portion of the estate at
Cowling and elsewhere, but a clause was added that he should not claim any of
the property of his father or of his uncle Henry, Lord Cobham, and that he was
"not to enjoy the title of Lord Cobham without the King's special grace,"
which was never vouchsafed to him. He was K.B., 1 February 1625/6, at the
Coronation of Charles I, and was M.P. for Rochester, 1628-29. He married, 1stly,
Pembroke, daughter of Henry (LENNARD), LORD DACRE, by Chrysogona, daughter of
Sir Richard BAKER, of Sissinghurst, Kent. He married, 2ndly, before 1642,
Penelope, daughter of Sir Moyses HILL, of Hillsborough, co. Down, Provost
Marshal of Ulster, by his 1st wife, Alice, sister of Sorley Boye MACDONNEL. He
died s.p.m., from wounds received when fighting against the King, at the first
battle of Newbury, 20 September 1643, when the right to the Barony, subject
to the attainder, fell into abeyance between his 4 daughters and coheirs.
His widow, to whom and to whose children by him the Parliament, in 1647, voted
£4,000, married the hon. Edward Russell [son of Francis, 4th Earl of
Bedford], who died 21 September, and was buried 19 October 1665, at Chenies, Bucks.
She was buried there 12 July 1694. [CP 3:350-1]
