Re: Archbishop of Saragossa as an Ancestor
Dear Leo,
I am going to ask my friends at the Portugal-Gen list.
What I've noticed is that there are titled noblemen
from old families in the islands - Madeira and Açores
- with distant royal connections, in contrast to those
commoners in the Continent with rather close royal
connections.

I can ask my friends at the Portugal-Gen list.
Gateways in Brazil link us in general to 14th or
at
most early 15th century royalty (Henrique II of
Castille, and D. João I of Portugal).
I mean: families like the Noronha, Henriques [de
Noronha] (from Henrique II), and several minor
branchyes descended from the early Braganças - the
Faro and Portugal lines.
Most Portuguese have closer royal links, e.g. I
have
several commoner, very bourgeois portuguese
friends
who are descended from D. João IV (king in 1640).

Well, as I've repeatedly said, Portuguese is very
close to Spanish. And also close to Italian - but not
as much as to Spanish.

Dear Chico,
You are fortunate, you are on both sides of those walls preventing me and
many others accessing knowledge from Spain, Portugal and Italy.
