such a fashion that males "get it" from/through their mothers, but never

Not so! Sons who have the gene, (and, therefore, the disease, can pass on
said gene, on the infected 'X' chromosome, (therefore, only to their
daughters). I have no notes in front of me, right now, but IIRC, one of
Vic's sons, or grandsons, did just so.

and daughters do not get it, but carry it (or not) to only
male offspring.
Haven't read all postings, so perhaps this has already been discussed
and elucidated.
