This is just a minor point to make, but it involves one of my ancestors so I
want to make it. Thomas James (1620/1-1696) is considered a "gateway
ancestor" and included as such in Mr. Richardson's list for inclusion in his study.
But Thomas James was minister and resident of East Hampton (Easthampton)
not Southampton as stated more than once.

Sources:

(1) Letter dated 6 Sept. 1654 from Thomas James to John Winthrop, Jr.
[Collection of the Massachusetts Historical Society, Vol. VII - Fourth Series
(1865), pp. 483-484]. He signed this letter:
"So with all humble respects, we rest, Yours, the Inhabitants of
Easthampton. Tho: James."

(2) Will of Thomas James from Early Long Island Wills of Suffolk County,
1691-1703, by William S. Pelletreau (1897), pp. 123-127. The will begins with a
description of Thomas James as "Preacher of ye Gospel & Minister of
Easthampton in ye County of Suffolk upon the Isle of Nassau..."

(3) 1682 will of his father, Thomas James of Needham Market, Suffolk
[Ipswich Record Office ~ IC/AA1/113/80]. "I Give & Bequeath unto my sonn Thomas
James of Easthampton in Long Island in New England in Case he be livinge att at
(sic) the time of my death all my Books & such of my household goods &
Clothes as can or may conveniently be sent over..."

As stated this is a minor point, but Southampton and East Hampton are not
the same town.
