Will Johnson opines that Count d'Angerville's "Living Descendants of
Blood Royal"
"can be relied upon at least as far as the scholarship available in 1961
was able."

I can only repeat my post of August 24, 2004, in response to a request
from Mr.
Johnson to the list for opinions on the quality of this book:

"It is outstandingly bad, even taking into account that it dates from a
period
prior to a great deal of the healthy demolition that has winnowed out
bogus
descents in recent decades. "D'Angerville" lists 96 immigrant ancestors
of
alleged royal descent; 27 of these do not appear in RD600 and are
probably
bogus.

"Even where the immigrant ancestor is of authentic royal descent, he/she
is frequently ascribed descendants, or ancestors, or both, that are
bogus.
for example, on page 286, Nicholas Wyatt of Maryland is called son of
the
Rev. Hawte Wyatt of Virginia, which is wholly unproved and most
unlikely.

"My favorite, though, is at page 724, where Edwin Sandys, Archbishop of
York, who was born c. 1516, is called the great-great-great-great
grandson
of Eleanor Musgrave, "b. ca. 1546," and is thereby awarded a completely
[and obviously] fictitious descent from Edward III.

"As it happened, I had noticed this descent in "Count d'Angerville"'s
volume 1 and had written him pointing out its absurdity. He chose to
include it in volume 2 anyway. That did not speak highly to me ot his
integrity. Whether he was a bona fide Count I have no idea."

Thank you for reminding the list of this. If you have your notes or the
volume handy, would you be able to list those 27?
