Ironworker Henry Leonard's French ancestry

Hi Robert:

Thank you for alerting me to your excellent article "The Massachusetts Ironworks Project" which appeared in The Essex Genealogist (May 2000) 20:64-77. You might be interested in my article "Pre-American Ancestry of our Leonard Ironworkers" (<http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~bart/>)which leads back to Henry Leonard, alias Quintin, who was baptized 1 Jan. 1561/2 at Etchingham, Sussex.

Like you, I found Brian Awty's work to be of great value. The last letter I received from him was dated 25 Aug. 2002. In that letter he wrote that he had finished proofreading the 400 pages of his forthcoming book on immigrant French ironworkers. I have not been able to find this book or to contact Mr. Awty. Have you?

Based on what he had sent me I came up with a possible descendancy list beginning with a Quinten Loeonard and ending with a child of Henry Leonard baptized 22 Feb. 1590 in Fletchling. Hopefully this "child of Henry Leonard" was my Thomas Leonard, father of my immigrant Henry Leonard. (Warning: in my descendancy list at <http://worldconnect.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=bartstam> "b." stands for either "born" or "buried")!

I see that Awty has Jordan Leonard (a son of Martin) married Thomasina Crismas/Christmas at Burwash 12 Sept. 1591. Their first 2 sons, two Johns, were baptised 9 July 1592 and 14 July 1593 in Burwash. The first son, John/Johannes, died 13 Sept. 1592 in Burwash.

Thank you for renewing my interest in pursuing this project.
