Hello,

Not long ago John Brandon suggested that Sir Alexander Nisbet, Baronet,
of Dean Hall in South Carolina (1692-1753) might have a royal descent
and cited an article on his family. I have since located the article
and developed the following descent for him from Robert II:

-------------------
1. Robert II, King of Scots = Elizabeth Mure

2. Elizabeth Stewart, Princess of Scots = Sir Thomas de la Haye of
Erroll

3. Alicia de la Haye = Sir William Hay of Locherworth & Yester

4. Jean Hay = Sir Alexander Home of Home

5. Sir Alexander Home, 1st Lord Home = Marion Lauder

6. Alexander Home, Master of Home = Agnes Hepburn

7. John Home of Ersiltoun = Margaret Ker

8. Mungo Home of Ersiltoun = Elizabeth Stewart

9. Helen Home = James Hamilton of Innerwick

10. Sir Alexander Hamilton of Innerwick = Margaret Home

11. Sir Alexander Hamilton of Innerwick = ________ Hamilton

12. Margaret Hamilton = Sir John Murray of Blackbarony

13. Agnes Murray = Sir John Riddell of Riddell, 1st Bt.

14. Sir Walter Riddell of Riddell, 2nd Bt. = Jane Rigg

15. Sir John Riddell of Riddell, 3rd Bt. = Helen Morrison

16. Christian Riddell = Sir Henry Nisbet of Dean, Baronet

17. Sir Alexander Nisbet of Dean, Baronet, was baptized 7 March 1692 at
Saint Cuthbert's, Edinburgh, Midlothian, and died 8 October 1753 in
South Carolina, where he owned the estate of Dean Hall, Charleston
County, South Carolina. He married 3 October 1742 in Edinburgh Parish,
Edinburgh to Mary Rutherfurd, daughter of Sir John Rutherfurd of that
Ilk, and left issue.

It is, of course, based only on secondary sources but it seems sound
and is probably correct. Thanks, John, for pointing out Huger Smith's
article about Alexander's descendants!

Hi Kelsey

I show Sir Alexander Home, 1st Lord Home as son of Sir Alexander by
Janet Hay daughter of Sir William Hay of Locherworth based on CP VI:
551-556 and SP IV: 440-460. SP IV: 445. calls Janet's mother Joanna
daughter and heiress of Hugh Gifford of Yester.

Is it possible you are missing a generation between 3 and 4? I am not
that familiar with the Hays of Yester and Locherworth.

Hello,

I don't have the SP handy so I can't make a definitive statement on
this, but the BP (1970 edition, p. 2687) gives the following account of
the relevant Hays of Yester:

I. Sir Thomas Hay of Locherworth (d. aft. 1397) = Joanna, elder dau. &
co-heir of Hugh Gifford of Yester. He had issue:

II. Sir William Hay of Locherworth & Yester (d. 1421) = Alicia, dau. of
Sir Thomas Hay of Erroll. He had issue:

III. Jean Hay = Sir Alexander Home of Home.

So, assuming this to be correct, Alicia is indeed the wife of Sir
William and Joanna Gifford is William's mother.

Sincerely,
Kelsey J. Williams

It would appear that BP and SP do not agree.
