IS THIS SOURCE RELIABLE?

Legg inn av Diane » 16 mar 2005 00:16:54

Has anyone seen the source below and if so, is a reliable source of
information?

Ancestors of Alexandra Catlin Vaut (et al):

'Judith de Lorraine was born about 1140 in Lorraine, France. She married
Etienne II de Bourgogne Compte d'Auxonne about 1133 in France'
'Etienne II de Bourgogne Compte d'Auxonne [Parents] was born about 1115 in
Bourgogne, France. He died about 1197'

Thanks -

Diane

Going by this, your source is quite UNreliable.

It is just as well to avoid any source of information that purports to
give birthplaces for everyone, based on the supposed place of residence
of their parents. We can rarely know where, or when, medieval
individuals were born, especially females.

In this case, Judith cannot have become a bride "about 1133", as this
was some years before her own parents had married.

She died on 19 March, year unknown, after having married (perhaps ca
1170) Etienne II, count of Auxonne & seigneur of Traves (who was still
living on 21 January 1173, but his date of death after that is
unknown). Their son lived until 1241.

Georges Poull gave a generally reliable account of Judith's family
(without a sister named Sophie), citing sources, in _La Maison ducale
de Lorraine devenue La Maison impériale et royale d'Autriche, de
Hongrie et de Bohême_ (Nancy, 1991).
