This is a new publication that might interest some people.

Paul Dryburgh and Brendan Smith, eds., _Handbook and Select Calendar
of Sources for Medieval Ireland in the National Archives of the United
Kingdom_ (Dublin: Four Courts; London: National Archives, 2005).

Extensive excerpts from documents are included (in translation).
These include two concerning William Brampton (d. 1406), London
alderman and burgess, an ancestor of the New England families of
Whitfield and Waters.

p. 149-50:

C 241/187/40 1397-9
William Brampton, mayor of the Westminster staple, receiver of the
recognisances of debtors there, to the bishop of Exeter, chancellor.
He signifies that on 3 June 1397 David Sergeant de Clavering in Essex
came before the court of the mayor and constable of the staple and
acknowledged his debt of L20 to Peter Pilston, merchant of Ireland, to
be repaid at Michaelmas thereafter. It has not been paid and William
prays that the chancellor will compel him to pay this by attorney.
Given in the staple on 26 February 1397 (sic.)
[Endorsed _Essex'. coram domino rege in cancellaria sua in
crastino Ascensionis Domini._]

and William Cursoun junior of Norfolk came before the court of Adam
Carlhill, then mayor of the staple, and the constable thereof, and
