Benedict III von Ahlefeldt

Hi,

In Brenner's Nachkommen Gorms des Altes I read the following (with my
interpretation of all the symbols and abbreviations):

1541 c. Ide Krummedige married Benedict (III) von Ahlefeldt, 1352,
Ridder, died at the earliest 1401 [Probable second marriage to
Katarine Clausdatter Limbek, died at the earliest 1368], son of
Ridder Benedict (II) von Ahlefeldt, dead (1360) and Benedicte, dead
1360. Sons:16 generation IX, numbers 2229-30.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ide Krummedige's sons with Ridder Benedict (III) von Ahlefeldt (s. no. 1541)
2229 a. Benedict (IV) von Ahlefeldt, Væbner 1376, Ridder 1397, 1411
2230 b. Henneke von Ahlefeldt, 1387.
However, I was told (rather brusquely) that a book of the Ahlefeldt
family (Slægten Ahlefeldt) has all of Benedict III's children being
born to Katharine Limbek. The only copies of Slægten Ahlefeld I can
locate are hugely expensive (several hundreds of dollars). I suppose
this might be a good test of the inter-library loan system, but I'm
not very hopeful of success. Does anybody have a knowledge of other
sources that might refer to these marriages and their possible
offspring?
Regards,
Mike King.
The book Slægten Ahlefeldt which you mention is listed in the catalog of the
Family History Library (do a surname search on Ahlefeldt). The FHL copy is
on microfilm, so it should be lendable to a local Family History Center in
your area.
FWIW, a lengthy article on the Ahelfeldt family in the 1929 edition of
Danmarks Adels Aarborg (also available through the FHL) gives Benedict III
seven sons, but (if my limited command of Danish is right) it says they are
by either Catherine Limbek or Ide Krummedige - i.e., no definitive answer.
Hi John,
Many thanks for the FHL information. I really should start to access
their resources more. I didn't realise that films of the DAA were
available. I went to a lot of trouble getting hold of copies of the
1884, 1887, 1945 and 1946 issues.
