Urgent Appeals for Help: Victoria County History Essex and M

Regular readers of this list/newsgroup won't need reminding what a huge role
the Victoria County History has played in documenting the history of local
land tenure in England, which is a prime source of evidence for medieval
genealogy.

The VCH is also at the forefront of the provision of high-quality source
material on the Internet. Many of the older published work, and draft
material from recent and forthcoming volumes, are available free of charge,
either at British History Online:
http://www.british-history.ac.uk/
or through the VCH's own website:
http://www.englandpast.net/

Two of the local VCH groups - those in Essex and Middlesex* - are now in
urgent need of financial help, following the withdrawal of public funding.
If they are unable to cover their costs in the short-to-medium term, they
may be unable to continue their work, which would obviously be a tragedy for
all those interested in medieval English genealogy.

If anyone is unable to offer any help, further details can be found here:

*It's perhaps worth noting that every single published VCH volume for
Middlesex, together with drafts of forthcoming work, are available free of
charge on the Internet. Links can be found here:
