Crusader List

Legg inn av JED » 20 feb 2005 16:31:02

Greetings, Listers.

Do any of you kind folks know of the existence of a list/charte/roll
with names of participants in the First or Third Crusade? I have a
circa 950 ancestor who "took the Cross" and went to the Holy Land, and
family tradition says that there is a document from that era sealed with
his arms.

Any input or comments would be most welcomed.

do you mean 950 AD? that would be too early for any Crusade. 950 years ago
would be around 1050 which is before the first crusade, making that one the
most likely. however, if your ancestor was born around 1050, he would be
rather old when the crusade started

Joseph,
That's a remarkable number of crusaders. I also found some of them in my
pedigree and listed them on http://www.zuiderent.ch under "English". But with 950
crusaders you are the champion.

Dear Arnold,

I think he meant the year circa 950.

If you go to http://www.genealogics.org go to Text Search and under
occupation enter crusader you will get only 81 who are marked off as
crusader and they are of several crusades not just the first one. Hope this
helps a little.
Best wishes

Leo: First of all let me express my gratitude for the wealth of information
you have made available to those of us who are trying to research our
ancestry but with limited local resources. When I used Text search on your site
and entered "crusaders" there were 0 results found. Can you suggest what I
have done wrong. Many thanks

No "s". Just Crusader not Crusaders

Where did you enter the word? You have to enter it in 'occupation'.
Try it and see what you get.

It worked fine without the "s". I knew I was feeling too competent today.
Many thanks.
