In keeping with Mr Reitwiesner's notes section which deals with interesting
family connexions, etc., I have one to point out that may be of interest,
viz.:

Camilla's half-aunt, i.e. her father's half sister, and the daughter of
Philip Morton Shand by his apparent 4th and last wife, Sybil Mary Sissons,
is the current life peeress, Baroness Howe of Idlicote, nee Elspeth Rosamund
Morton Shand (b. 8 March 1932), and wife of the another life peer, Lord Howe
of Aberavon, the erstwhile Sir Geoffrey Howe, sometime British Chancellor of
the Exchequer, Foreign Secretary, etc.

Also, I am a little puzzled by the comment under Mr Reitwiesner's notes
about Camilla's alleged descent from Edward VII that the resulting
cousinship (2nd cousins once removed) to the Prince of Wales would not be as
close as that between The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh. I thought that
this was exactly the same degree of kinship involved in H.M.'s closest
cousinship with her husband.

Cheers,

Richard Carruthers

It would be half-second cousins, once removed. The Queen and the Duke
of Edinburgh are related in three ways: from Queen Victoria (3rd
cousins), King Christian IX of Denmark (second cousins, once removed)
and George III (4th cousins, once removed). I'm guessing all added up,
they are more closely related than the Prince of Wales and the soon to
be Duchess of Cornwall.
