(what's the "643" etc doing?)

He married 457. Jean Steuart 1708644.

I think it was on 20th Aug 1708 at Fogo, Berwick, Scotland

457. Jean Steuart645, died 1766645.

My understanding is that she was born in 1690 and died in Edinburgh on
the 27th February 1767. She was the author of a noted work
"Meditations upon Several texts of Scripture" published around 1771.
There are alternative spellings of her name: Stewart and Stuart; I
think the last is more authentic, though earlier generations spelt it
Stewart.

More About Alexander Trotter and Jean Steuart:
Marriage: 1708646

See above.

Child of Alexander Trotter and Jean Steuart is:
228 i. Archibald Trotter, born 1716;

I have it that he was born in 1717.

died 1786; married
Jean Moubray 1748.

458. Robert Moubray647. He married 459. Katherine Linde.
459. Katherine Linde648.

Child of Robert Moubray and Katherine Linde is:
229 i. Jean Moubray, died 1796; married Archibald Trotter
1748.

Should one add that she was heiress to The Bush and Castlelaw,
Edinburgh?

It appears to have been originally a superscript "643", to indicate a footnote
or source reference, but the shift from the output of whatever computer program
he's using to the 7-bit ASCII of email and Usenet removed the superscripting.
