How stupid, if they are to marry she should be Princess of Wales. I really
wonder how the British people will react to it. Is Elizabeth II going to be
the last monarch after all?

I think that would be difficult. The way his first wife was treated
still upsets the British people. The Wales family comprises his sons and
their mother, as well as himself. I don't think the style Princess of
Wales would be at all accetable for her, regardless that she will be
married to the Prince of Wales. Modern times.

I'm sure we are going to be treated to every possible opinion on this, Leo -
people are already clearly over-excited by the announcement & everything
about the marriage - but remember that however stupid it may seem there was
no possible alternative for the queen.

There is a sacral aspect to her role in addition to the civil, as discussed
in another thread recently: as well as being head of state (actually of
several states, that all will recognise the marriage fully) she is Supreme
Governor of the Church of England, which still in theory insists that every
canonical marriage is indissoluble. Mrs Parker-Bowles has a previous husband
living. If he shouild die, there will be nothing to stop her becoming
princess of Wales and queen, but while he lives and Prince Charles may yet
have to take a coronation oath of his own, with the best will in the world
this cannot happen.

Things that seem stupid may have an inexorable logic to them, if only
certain premises are accepted that, however outmoded you think them, are
simply not subject to changing customs or whims of the time.

How do you work that out, that people are "clearly over-excited" about this?

Where do you get that idea from, everyone I talk to thinks that Di was
out for what she could get, would not accept advice and tried her
hardest to destroy the Royal Family.
At least Camilla knows how to behave.

I'll give Millie this (love this new name for her: haven't come across
it before), she has been quiet in her activities, some might say
discreet. While Di was alive, she was everyone's favourite, bar a few,
who thought her a nutter. Since she died, everyone has joined on the
bandwagon of Di-bashing. It's fashionable, but I don't know how much
truth there is in any of what you say. Besides, why should she try to
destroy the Royal Family when her son will be king one day? Why would
she destroy her descendants' futures.

My views on her have not changed since the early days of her marriage
and her whining that the Queen kept interfering and telling her what to
do (someone needed to remind her of protocol and who better).

Di knew from the start the situation with Charles and Camellia (it had
been going on for some years and they had no intention of stopping) and
she accepted it but after marriage tired to change this situation. She
knew why she had been chosen and what her role would be, but tried to
force her hand when she considered she had leverage, history shows how
she failed.
She was manipulative and scheming using the press to best advantage, it
is just a pity that Charles took so long in realising just how to
manipulate the press to advantage.

Could it be she was just too outspoken? Maybe using her new position in
life to get good things accomplished?......

I've always thought it was tragic that Charles & Camilla were not able
to marry when they were much younger (perhaps instead of the people
they actually married at the time). Camilla gets a beating for not
*looking* like Diana which is really stretching for a story. Charles &
Camilla both deserve to be happy in their private lives; they have
always been friends as well as lovers. If only they hadn't had to
wait...sigh...Bronwen

Amen Leo! She should absolutely be the Princess of Wales when she is
married to the Prince of Wales. I'm not one of these people who worship
Diana, not that I have anything against her either, but she married
into the royal family, she was not the heiress, her husband was the
heir. When they divorced, that was it, she was no longer a member of
royal family in all actuality.

Prince Charles is the heir, his wife, whoever he chooses her to be,
should be Queen when he is King. Anybody who says different needs to
have their head examined. That's the way it's been done since the
beginning of recorded history.

I can't even respect the Swedish monarchy who has chosen a daughter
over the son, ridiculous. I guess her husband won't be titled either
when the time comes. Last I heard the people were literally throwing
pies in the King's face, that's what a joke that monarchy is.

I heard some woman on the news saying that she hoped the British
monarchy would be finished after the Queen. These people have no sense
of pride and what is right. What an ungodly generation that seeks to
destory what God has exalted and exalt self-pleasure and falsehood.

Twaddle!

But John Adams meant something different by Democracy than we do today.
